Herpes Itch

Recommended Posts

Well i got a over the counter cortizone cream. Seems to work for a bit. Then i follow up with tea tree oil and peppermint oil but it only lasts a lil bit. I wake up in the night in an itchy craze phase. Im going to the dr again Monday

My bf says i should also try cornstartch. I'll try it tonight a long with ice

I been taking my acyclovir and propolis daily. Just frustrated and literally praying for some relief

Hey tNd,

There have been a lot of people on these forums who have discussed this itch that seems to accompany post-herpes outbreaks.

Some options that women specifically have said (in the links at the bottom) that work for them (NOTE: Use at your own discretion; these are just what other users on this forum have said worked for them):

- vinegar bath: pour a cup of distilled white vinegar in the bath (Epsom salt bath or an oatmeal bath helps too)

- cold wash cloth

- over-the-counter anti-itch cream

- witch hazel wipes for hemorrhoids (put in fridge to get them chilly)

- might possibly be because of taking too much medication?

- might need to get your sugar checked?

Here are quite a few discussions that have mentioned itchiness because of herpes:

tNd oooo good idea on hemoroid cream never thought of that. my 1st.out break came out when I found this group on nov. 2nd.

I tried hydrocortisone with no luck. monostat vulvar cream seems to help micronazol nitrate

get some generic monostat. sry spelling. if you get the lideocain use it sparingly apply affected areas with a cotton swab. and treat it like gold. its about $25.00 for a 2oz. tube a little goes a long way. wished the E.R doctor told me that. learn from my mistake. also if outbreak happens go to dr. and ask for vicoden for pain management. DO NOT GO TO E.R I have to wait 2hrs. before I got the blessed meds bawling my eyes out due to pain.

p.s and have a happy thanksgiving

I got the lidocaine today...oddly now that the symptoms are dying down i dont really need it but at least its in reserve if i ever need it again....i'm armed: tea tree oil, acyclovir, vitamins, cortizone cream, gold bond powder, lidocaine! Bring it lol

At least i know what to expect in the future and how to deal with it

Ammonium Alum also helps to dry the blisters more quickly - you can either make a soak with it and apply with a washcloth or put it on neat (stings like a MoFo at first but shortens the outbreak dramatically by drying it up)

It's the same stuff that is in the deodorant crystals and foot deodorant - known as an antibacterial and antifungal - and I suspect antiviral in that it upsets something in the balance of all 3

tnd,

Great News. tried to get my rx of lideocain filled and was horrifed about the cost. $55 next paycheck I guess. I'm taking 3000mgs of Lysine also to help with healing. looking into vitamins to help build up my immune system.

Did get my VICADEN filled though! we have copied down your suggestions. I have also changed our diet also switched to gluten free. somehow gluten seem to aggravate the virus somehow, we are testing out this theory. Also got on some anti anxiety meds to help with stress. I have learn that unmanaged stress can bring on an outbreak.

I do have to say having this has definatly made me think about living healthier for myself and my family. what a wake up call.

I found sunshine, and chocolate and nuts (especially together!) used to cause outbreaks for me. More recently, even that doesn't seem to set me off.

The nuts seem to be an argenine thing...it seems to feed or aggravate the virus...those were *my* triggers for many years.... now I seem to be in nearly total remission and I rarely get minor outbreaks.

Personally I would work on the stress - learning to control it without the meds... because the anxiety is your body telling you to change something...the herpes will just act as a further reminder. I've removed nearly all the stresses in my life - I may not have a lot of money, but I don't have the stress either... and my body is much better for it....
