Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV2) is more commonly known as genital herpes. Herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) is known as oral herpes or simply “cold sores.” Genital herpes is only spread through skin-to-skin contact. Herpes can lie dormant, which is why even if you’ve never had an outbreak or haven’t had one for a while, it can still be spread (this is called “viral shedding”). Over 25 million Americans have herpes (16% of Americans age 14-49), but 80% of people don’t know it. The most important part , though, is for you to realize this: you are not alone and you are still just as sexy and vibrant as ever. Don’t let herpes hold you back.
