“Babe, I have herpes.” (Mens Health Australia article)
A writer from Men’s Health Australia reached out to me about a piece he was writing called “Tough Conversations.”
So I shared one of my first “Opportunity” herpes talks …
It’s refreshing and powerful to see how our worldwide culture is opening up to talking about the stuff that’s hard to talk about.

Good article Adrial, not to mention well-edited! you must have gone through quite a lot of feelings and crazy talk in your head while navigating that Movie Moment. So true about integrity being sexy. Thanks for the leadership you demonstrate about this tricky issue and v tricky moment in connections.

Aw, thanks Rosie! Yeah, that movie moment was epic, almost seeming to play out in slow motion. I could hear the theme music for Rocky playing in my head.

Dear Adrial,
I have referred several of my patients to your website. I think it has helped, and I also feel many of them would agree with the writer who said, it doesn’t feel like an opportunity. I would like to read the Men’s Health article, but it’s not happening! Can you help? Clicking print doesn’t work either. Thanks!

Hey Anita!
Thanks for letting me know you were having trouble viewing it. Here’s a direct link to just the text of the article. Does that work better for you?

And to this not feeling like an opportunity, you’re referring to this post? https://herpeslife.com/a-message-i-got-its-not-an-opportunity/
It’s like working a muscle. The muscle of perspective. By default, it can be hard to see how these seemingly shitty things that happen in our lives can be opportunities. But the irony is that the shitty things tend to wake us up to the beauty that’s always been here. Someone very close to me almost died of breast cancer. Now, looking back on that experience, that cancer brought us closer than we had ever been before. And yes, cancer is still a horrific disease. It kills so many. It’s tragic. Who would dare claim cancer as an opportunity? Well, this person did. And it turned out the cancer was the thing that catapulted her into deeper connection with her own life and everyone in it. The cancer was the thing that woke her up to the beauty of her own life.
Yes, the Opportunity perspective takes some work to get to.
