Sex when partners positive - one asymptomatic, one not

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am new. Here is a quick backstory:

Met the love of my life last spring. It was love at first sight. We have since made a home and a life together. We are and have been 100% monogamous and faithful to each other. At Christmas I was diagnosed with HSV 2 after having my first outbreak. It was shocking and confusing to say the least. He has since been tested and came back positive but has never shown symptoms. I have now had 5 outbreaks in two months and I am getting drained. We are tackling this together but it bothers me to have our life interrupted/inconvenienced. He feels terrible because I am the only one with physical symptoms. We have been avoiding sex when I am having an outbreak (and shortly thereafter one) but is this necessary if he is already positive?

Thanks

Avoid sex during an OB even if you both have HSV 1/2. The “emotional” support goes a long way. And from what I read, you can get it down there even if you or your partner have it orally. I’m not sure if you can be “asymptomatic” in one area and not the other...but in general it’s a good idea to avoid sexual contacts and kisses during visual OB’s.
