Could I have Genital Herpes?

Recommended Posts

A few years back I had a one night stand with a girl I thought was clean. I had not had any sort of sex for a few years before that. Well, 2 weeks after the incident I began to feel burning on the skin of my penis, it probably didn't help that I went for a very long run and the chaffing and sweating hurt. A few days later I received a flu, but unlike any flu I ever had I never got cold symptoms or the runs. Flu like symptoms + genital burning + some redness , there were never any blisters, sores, or bumps.

I went to the doctors, he said he didn't think it was herpes, but I got tested for everything including an Igm (I know, worthless) and IGG for both type 1 and type 2 herpes (this was at one month). All were negative, I got the same tests at 3 months, at 4 months, at 6 months, all were negative. I had seen a dermatologist, a urologist, two different family doctors, and the health department twice.

The flu went away after a 5 days, but my penis redness and the slight burning never went away for 7 months. The head remained red forever. I finally dismissed the idea of it being herpes and found the woman I got engaged to.

Fast forward 2 years. My lady and I have had unprotected sex for a year and a half with nothing. I get really stressed and have a lack of sleep for a week, than I start feeling the flu like symptoms all over again. I get redness on the shaft and slight burning. There were no blisters, cracks, blisters, or ulcers, just redness (that dies down when I am inactive to nothing) and slight burning (And flu like symptoms that went away). I am assuming that the burning will go away to, hopefully sooner.I will get IGG tested one final time but I highly doubt that after 4 previous tests I would show anything.

A lot makes me think this is not herpes such as constant negative tests and no changes in the surface of the skin except redness which covers a very large portion, however the flu like symptoms in combination with the burning twice now makes me think I have HSV of type 1 or 2.

Has anyone had frequent unprotected sex with a partner for over a year and a half and not spread it? Does this sound like herpes to you? Could it be type 2 despite not having outbreaks between 2 years? Or does this sound more like a type 1 scenario? Or neither at all?

I doubt this is herpes. However, since your last test you have had a new sexual partner (your fiance) so you're at risk for HSV exposure unless she's been tested and had waited at least 3 months since her last sexual encounter before testing.

Also the girl you slept with who you thought was "clean" could still have been clean and had HSV. People with HSV are not dirty. I guess it's always possible they're dirty but that has nothing to do with HSV. (:

No way, I don’t consider people with hsv to be dirty. I know that in other countries it’s no big deal, and so many people who get it don’t deserve it. After going through this and always wondering, i actually think people who have disease learn to date better and become a better partner.

The girl had gotten igg hsv tests, I got many, it’s like no one will test positive and I’m the only one with symptoms. I find this impossible for hsv2, but given the events that happened sexually I find it hard to be HSV1.

My next stop is going to be an autoimmune specialist as I have had other autoimmune skin disorders. ( I would rather have hsv than some of those but it’s the only thing that might make sense).

I think it's just herpes but it doesn't matter. Try not to freak out. Herpes is a super-common infection that causes sores on your genital or mouth. So far, over half of Americans have oral herpes and 1 out of 5 Americans have genital herpes. Only a few of people are not living with herpes.

Getting diagnosed with Herpes can be the worst moment of your life. However, in order to safely and confidently date with genital herpes you should definitely know a few things. www.HerpesSingle.net can help you deal with and overcome any issue which genital herpes might create in your dating life. So take a deep breath. And realize taking little steps every day will help you recover and heal from this experience. And I promise, you will find happiness again.
