Need info on herpes-2 medications

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends,

I was new to this forum and I need your support to clarify my questions. I'm 24 years Male, tested positive for herpes. I don't even know that there is a desease called herpes till today. I had sex for the first time in April,2017. 2 days later I had some issue with my penis(inflation and blister with no pain) so consulted different doctors(primary care, uronologist) everyone said nothing to worry it's normal irritation. I had no symptoms,no pain nothing but a little discomfort feeling coming on and off so decided to have std screening and had it with stdcheck.com and my Herpes 2 igg count is howing 5.41 today.

My questions are.

1. As I don't have any symptoms or pains should I consulat a doctor for medication. Or should I wait until I get a outbreak.

2. If I choose medication how often should I take them, everyday as long as I'm a live?. Or only when there is pain?

I greatly appreciate any answers to my question. Please share your answers if you know.

Thank you in advance.

Hi, @Sam_123. There's really only two reason to take antivirals: (1) to reduce the chances of transmission to an H- partner, or (2) to prevent or reduce outbreaks. If you don't have symptoms, the only reason to consider antivirals would be as a measure to reduce transmission. Just keep in mind that you need to be taking the antivirals 5-7 days before sex for them to be fully effective.
