Is my transmission rate higher in my first year?

Recommended Posts

I've had hsv2 for 6 weeks so I apologize for my ignorance. I'm wondering if the stats on transmission rates are different year one versus after year 1? Also, I'm on daily suppressants. In addition, wondering if the first year stats for oral sex (really rare) are different. Thank you so much for your help - I don't feel alone!

Heya calitenn! Welcome! Yes, as your immune system gets better and better at "handling" this new virus in your body, it gets better and better at suppressing it. The majority of people who first get herpes have the worst outbreaks in the first 6 months, but after the first year, the amount and severity of outbreaks lessens. You also have less viral shedding, which diminishes the chances of passing herpes on to partners (although the stats don't differentiate based on how long you've had herpes). It's safe to assume that as the amount & severity of your outbreaks decreases, so do the chances of passing herpes along since outbreaks are basically viral shedding that overloads the skin to produce an outbreak, if that makes sense.

Have you downloaded the e-book & handouts yet? A lot of great information in there. Here's the link for that: https://herpesopportunity.com/free-ebook-signup.html

You are certainly not alone! I hope you let that sink into your bones more and more. Everyone has something they're ashamed about. It's human nature. This actually makes you *more* human. :)

Hey Adrial! Thanks so much for the resources - the video was super helpful. Just to clarify: during one's first year they tend to shed 6-10% of days when there's no symptoms and that decreases there after? If so, is that why the transmissions rates are different? I appreciate the support!
