Worried I may have contracted herpes

Recommended Posts

I have been posting on the medhelp website, and people have been pretty helpful there assuring me that they don't think it could be anything herpes related. Here is a copy paste of my symptoms and what has been happening. This was after 30 second unprotected oral with a prositute. Stupid I know and I walked away from the situation because I couldn't believe what I was doing. I was drunk and this is totally out of the ordinary for me. The encounter happened on the 18th of march.

The more I read about the symptoms the more I feel that it was what I was feeling. First testicle pain and pain in the lymph nodes, then the slight itching, the back and bum pain. Slightly itchy urethra. I remember feeling almost like cuts on one part of my penis but when I checked I could literally see nothing there and thought perhaps it was from too much masturbation. Aching in my wrists. then the moisture in one area of my penis where I saw the pimple like lesions amongst the hair on the lower part of the shaft. They were all individual pimple things that didn't hurt but there was about 5 or 6 of them. Then the headaches and flu like symptoms and now it has gone. I even tried trimming my pubes to see if I had the same type of discomfort as last time but it hasn't done much at all. The only thing that gets me is that I only saw these pimple like lesions for 1 day and then they disappeared. Occasionally I would feel a slight prickle but that just felt like cut pubes. But I had never looked in that area before and you could only see then when the skin was pulled tight against the penis, otherwise they almost blended in with the skin. And now the symptoms have completely disappeared. I went to a sexual health clinic at 2 weeks post exposure, 6 weeks post exposure and I have just been to see a dermatologist yesterday. I did std checks (urine) for ghonnerea and chlamydia both times at the sexual health clinic, negative. Hiv and syphlis at the first visit which was negative too. Second time they said come back after three months. Visual tests at both and at the dermatologist, and they have all said I look fine. I'm just worried as the symptoms tell me different. Also note I work outside doing scaffolding, which is heavy lifting and I'm constantly sweating. Please help as I have been going crazy. I know it's not life threatening, but I never expected this to happen and I have not been myself for the past 2 months.

Thanks

Go do a final IgG blood test for herpes at 16 weeks post exposure. By then, virtually everyone who has HSV will have developed enough antibodies to test positive. I know you want to hear something more concrete, but ultimately, we're all guessing. There are more dermatological conditions than we can count!

Hikinggirl, I was thinking about doing an IGG test either tomorrow, or the week after just to get a clear indicator. Would you recccomend? And have you heard similar stories in the past? Sorry. I'm just terrified

That's up to you, but just be aware that this test measures not the virus, but antibodies your body produces in response to the virus. Some people make antibodies faster than others. If you test negative now, it's important to test again at 16 weeks, because it's possible you could have a false negative right now.

We've all been where you're at.....our minds running wild with worst case scenarios. No matter what the outcome, you can handle this. Herpes is very common and does not have to keep you from living an awesome life! {{hugs}}

I understand but I just feel like if get it done now it will give me somewhat of a clear indication perhaps. At least it is a result. I would like to believe the specialists who have looked at me and the online forums who I have discussed with that I am just going a bit crazy, but I just don't get how my 'supposed' symptoms would dissapear. Perhaps if they continued to occur I would think it was all in my mind but the fact that they have stopped has just freaked the hell out of me and made me think I have just finished my first outbreak since I only ever saw those lesions once and then they disappeared.

Getting the IgG so soon isn't going to give you a clear indication. As @HikingGirl said, it can take up to 16 weeks post exposure for your body to develop enough antibodies. So if it comes back negative today or next week, it's possible that you just haven't developed enough antibodies for the test to pick up on. It would be best to wait the 16 weeks if you want a clear indication. :)
