Freaking out and seeing herpes everywhere

Recommended Posts

I was diagnosed with genital herpes on Monday. I have a very inflamed and painful area on my finger from where I had torn off a huge hunk of cuticle and now I'm freaking out that it's herpes from checking myself out before I knew what the sores were or from applying the lidocaine gel on my sores. What is the likelihood of this type of spread and am I being too scared about this?

Hi, @Icanhandlethis. I would assume for now that the area is inflamed because of the torn cuticle. Yes, herpes can spread, and it's most likely to happen around the initial outbreak. But unless you start seeing actual sores, I'd go with the cuticle theory. I know this is a very confusing and scary time. Hang in there! {hugs}

As hiking said, it is usually around the outbreak. I thought I spread it to my hand as well, but it was not the case and the doc was sure it was fine. It is not that easy to transfer as you fear on your own body is what he told me. Wash your hands after contact, and the longer you have it the less likely you are to spread it. He said after the first, very unlikely to spread it.
