HELP may have contracted HSV 2 and freaking out

I have been driving myself crazy over the last few days about possibly contracting genital HSV 2. I already have genital and oral HSV 1 but have been having unprotected sex with a friend over the past two months and now fear he has given me genital HSV2 because of a bump / rash that appeared above my left knee which was painful and eventually itchy. I went and got tested and came back negative for everything. But the doctor told me I needed to go back and get tested if I think I may have been recently infected with HSV 2.

My question is, what are the chances I may be having HSV 2 symptoms and do I need to get retested now?

It may be possible. Get a IgG blood test done 4 months after you think you were exposed to hsv2, takes about that long for antibodies to be detectable. Of course, if you think you are having another outbreak get it swabbed asap.

Got it. So it is possible that a rash above the knee could be a symptom? My doctor told me it's unlikely for it to be that low on my leg.

I'm no expert--I've just read it tends to stay in the boxer shorts region. @ihaveittoo gave good advice. Keep in mind that individuals who already have HSV1 tend to have milder symptoms if they get HSV2. That was the case for me.....I had HSV2 for 18-25 years without even knowing I had it.
