Frequent urination taking medicine.

I've had cold sores since I was a little kid. My mom used to make a big deal about kissing me and drinking after her when i was a little kid and now I have cold sores for the rest of my life. I work really late and have been under some stress the last year so I went to the doctor and he gave me some valacyclovir. I've had 2 back to back cold sores and my prescription says to take 2 pills twice a day. So I took the max prescription for about 3 days and 1000 MG of lysine and Abreva constantly to try and knock them out. I've been noticing I urinate constantly since I took the medicine but I feel dehydrated. Is this normal? It's never happened before. I read kidney failure can be a side effect but I don't think I've been taking any extreme of a dose to cause that. Does anybody else have this issue?
