Valtrex vs Acyclovir

Pros/cons on each, and which one do you prefer? Hsv1 oral and genital.

I've never had Valtrex. Had very good results with acyclovir when I used it. Was prescribed Famvir once but did not find it as effective.

Acyclovir has been around long enough that generics are available and should be cheaper if that is an issue.

I seemed to get a lot of tingling/zingers in Valtrex. I'm only a month into my experiment with acyclovir, so I can't speak to how well it reduces outbreaks for me, but at least I'm not having constant tingles! The biggest con to acyclovir for me is the pill itself....this weird kinda-sorta hexagon shape that's flat and isn't coated. Whoever designed it is an idiot!
