genital herpes hsv-1 questions looking for answers thx

Recommended Posts

ok , so i just found out i have herpes, pretty hard to believe. was at work and urinating became painful, so i thought the women i slept with gave me something. couple days later a pimple popped up. i didn't think it was herpes or the doctor , but we had it tested and it was. the women i slept with says that she didnt have anything and was checked and it came back negative. so the whole thing is a guess to me. anyways i have been doing alot of reading and there are a few things i still dont really understand. so if u couldl pls help me out

1- when i don't have a break out, i don't understand what the shedding is? and how that can give the virus to someone else?

2- how often does hsv1 break out on the genitals?

3- if it comes back again whats the best way to deal w it? i was popping it because i thought it was a pimple. whats the best thing to do?

4-if i wear a condom it wont be spread? i had the pimple on my dick shaft.

Sooo you had a swab? Or blood test?

The woman you were with may or may not have been tested for HSV1 .... and odds are that you got it from oral sex.

Asymptomatic shedding means that yes, you can be shedding the virus without symptoms. Just as you usually get a cold from someone before they show symptoms.

How often do you have OB's? Well, everyone is different. So we can't tell you for sure, but *most* people only have a couple OB's a year.

There's a lot of ways to deal with it.... you can have the antivirals on hand and take them at the first sign of an OB. You can just take L-Lysine which works for some. Or you can try things like Epsom Salts Baths and such (I'll put links below of thing that people have tried and found useful.

Condoms? Well, a lot *does* depend on where you get your OB's and in your case, you will have a *lower* risk of passing it on because of the location but you *can* shed anywhere in the boxer shorts region. That's why Herpes is so good at spreading ... because most people don't know they have it until they pass it on :(

If you went on a blood test .... I'd get the next "OB" swabbed. You actually may only have H1 orally (like 80% of the population) and have a real pimple/folliculitis issue going on ....

thx for the info. I had the pimple swabbed and it came back hsv-1, the women says she's shocked too, and that she's never had an std ever.. Neither have I. so I don't know? either way I'm pretty bummed out. the doctor said it's possible

To not have another breakout for years, for me it just really hurt to pee for like ten days, that was the worst part. Had no meds or anything while I was waiting for the test results

She doesn't need to have a cold sore ever present to have oral herpes. Most people are under the impression that when they request a full STD panel, that herpes is included in it and it's not, so she likely is under the pretense, she doesn't have oral herpes, since she's shown no signs of it and actually does have it. Most do have it by the time they're adults. Like 80%.

Autoinoculation is rare. Obviously you don't want to touch a sore and rubbing it in a cut, but after a few months your body will build antibodies and you don't need to worry. Your eyes though, you should always be careful w your wyes, but nobody should be touching their genitals and then touching their eyes w or w out H.

Mp, I was just diagnosed with genital hsv1 today. It does suck. I'm also worried about the outlook of my sex life. My boyfriend and I have a lot of sex so I am pretty bummed our lives will forever be changed and we have to be extra careful.

If you both have hsv 1 on your genitals, then you have nothing to worry about. Just don't have sex if you're having an outbreak. That's more for comfort reasons than anything else. Once you have it, you can't get it again. As for having sex with new partners, it would be responsible of you to share this information with them prior to having sex. Educate them that transmission rates are low (about 1% if you're using a condom and on antiviral medication) and live life. It's a canker sore skin virus that 80% of people have, usually in their mouths. We have it on our genitals and it can suck to have an outbreak, but 20% of people with HSV-1 never OB after their first. Don't sweat it. Find a person that either has the same thing or is okay with being intimate with you despite the issue.

So - some quick stats:

60% of young people have oral herpes by the time they are young adults

80% of people have oral herpes by the time they are 40

80% of all those people have no idea that they have it

50% of all new genital cases of herpes are from oral herpes

So your lady friend likely carried it orally and didn't know it. The vast majority of people who get Herpes get it from an asymptomatic carrier. And these stat's will show you you are far from aone in this....

The "good" news is that given you have H1, odds are that most women you date will already be carrying the virus so they will have some immunity. Also, it sheds a LOT less (like 1/3 as much) as genital HSV2 ... so that lowers your risk of passing it on even further.

You will just need to pay attention to your body from now on and not have sex if you have any suspicion that you are starting to have an OB... to be honest that gives you plenty of excuses to get yer freak on in other ways, which can be a good thing :)

  • 4 weeks later...

k, so its been around 6 weeks since i had my first outbreak, from the swab , came back hsv1.. while i waited the 7 days for the test results to come back it just killed to piss, prob cause i kept ripping the sore off cause i thought it was a pimple, anyways... 6 weeks later the end of my dick is still redish.. like it doesn't look like it did before... like it looks like it would be sore. but it's not? it the skin healing? does it take time? i'm confused...? during the 7 days though waiting for the test. it was mega sore and swelled. like i was dreading having to use the washroom. i havent read or watched anything so far in regards to this situation?

Yes it takes the skin awhile to heal and settle down ... but at least it sounds like you are healing and getting over the OB.

For the future, if you have an OB in an area where it hurts to pee, then pee in the shower or a glass of water (or pour it over the area) ... that dilutes the urine so it doesn't sting as much... and I'm posting some of our solutions that have helped others ... each of us will find things that help us to get it to heal faster so something in there should help you :)

I was red down there, w very shallow indents from where the ulcers were for like 3 months after. At 4 months I still didn't feel normal down there. As time goes on, the symtoms becane less and less, but i still have more than the avrrage person to this day, thej i hit one yr and had obs. I am 1yr and 3 months in and I still get ob's. I coukd tell yesterday in my groin crease, where I kept having back to back obs for two months straight when I hit a yr; wanted to breakout last night. It was itchy and a little sore. I've been stressed all week, up till 0430 working most nights to meet my deadline.. So I sprayed Bactine on both sides, since one side clears and then the other side breaks outout, two times yesterday. Today I feel no irritation and itchiness.. I don't know if it's cause I got to sleep by 0230 this time and slept till 9 or if the bactine also helped...

Just be patient... Some take longer to get better than others. Try the bactine as well.

2legit u have hsv1 and u are breaking out lots? I'm 6 weeks in after my first one, and I don't like to think about having another one , i talked to my brother he says he has hsv1 oral and have never had a sore. so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the future breakouts. Just curious about things looking the way they did before

No, I have ghsv 2. Don't worry, w as frequent as mine are, none of the bumps or redness is what I would describe as painful . they really don't bother me anymore. After about 8 months in, I prewmuch stopped having obs on my vagina and they would just be a few bumps on my butt cheeks, that would be gone in a couple of days. The ones I got in my groin, was just bright redness. Didn't hurt or bother me, unless I aired it out, then that made it painful. Your recurrents will not hurt like your primary. My issue is more of what has happened to my nerves getting H. I always have a tenderness in my crack, tailbone, buttocks and sometimes back of thighs, more often than not. Hard surfaces are a no go for me. I can deal w the bumps, it's the nerve issues that bother me.

hmm. I was sore like u described too.. and right now I have a lil patch of red skin on my inner thigh smaller then a nickel but it's been there for weeks... Doesn't bother me at all, but wasn't there before. once I got valtrex after waiting a week. The one pimple I had was gone in a few days , the symptoms and figuring out what is going on now and in the future I am unsure of.

don't really know what to expect/

Regardless to say I'm kinda scared of touching myself and sex all together now!!! life. What a ride huh
