Outbreak frequency when on suppressive therapy.

Recommended Posts

So the past few mths have been fairly normal, no obs or nerve symptoms to report, until last wk. A couple of days after having sex I started tingling and feeling the papercut feelings again. However, there are no sores this time. I've been on 500 mg of valtrex since diagnosis in Feb. had symptoms for a few mths after, but no real ob since before I started the meds. So my question is, do you still get obs on suppressive therapy? How do I know for sure it's an ob and not something else? Taking a break from relations until I'm normal again, but how long will that take? Really hoping I didn't trigger the months on end of symptoms again like I had before..

I do have obs on valtrex. What's helped me differentiate between just an anomaly and it being herpes, was journaling daily any symptoms, location and triggers. This helped me learn what is heroes and what isn't, especially because mine changes on me all the time and is not consistent. I only had a couple locations that are consistent, but it's something always different.

Good idea, I will try that. If I squat or sit a certain way I'll feel a shooting papercut feeling where I usually get sores. But I just looked with a flashlight and mirror again and there's nothing there. I can't see or feel anything when I look for it. It's when I'm working or doing anything I mentioned above that I get the shooting pains. Also feels irritated too. Not sure if an ob is on its way or not. I've had these symptoms for several days now and still no sores yet.

Sounds like neuropathy... I had severe neuropathy during my primary OB so bad, I had to go to the ER and get put on anticonvulsants for nerve pain for like 4 months. Then I had constant paresthesia every single day, like 20xs a day. After 6-7 months I started taking probiotics daily and my daily symptoms startes to lessen more and more. I used to also get one internal sore on the third day of my cycle, but the last two periods I've had, I've not gotten them for the first time and I just got my one yr anniversary yesterday. Now if I have breakthrough obs, it's because I drank liquor. Wine and beer don't do it, but liquor will if I have more than 4 drinks.

I also during my primary OB, had shooting pain to my feet, inside my rectum, vagina and location of sores, along w feeling like a burn victim on my buttock and back of legs. I couldn't even handle clothes touching me. If it's bothering you that much, I'd ask to increase to 1000 a day and/or request to be put on Neurontin or Lyrica.

I get symptoms of irritation w out sires as well. For me, I consider this to be shedding. Also when I get tingles, a crawling feeling or pins and needles.

So sorry to hear that 2Legit. But it sounds like things are getting better for you. Thanks for all the information. I'm on a probiotic too. Thinking of switching to all cotton tampons since I read synthetic fibers can harbor microbes. Seems like when I do have issues, it's after my period or after sex. I have a script for lidocaine, but haven't used it yet. I'm thinking I should keep the area as dry as possible for now.

@girlnamedhope

I would ask your doctor to try Famvir. And if that doesn't work I posted a link about a group who are looking into antiviral resistant herpes. You may want to look into that and see if you can talk to an infectious disease specialist, so that article to them. And see if they can get you on the medication that is discussed in the article. I'm on my phone so I can't get the link this moment but its in probably two pages on here. Or go to my profile page and I think it'll be at the top of the list there

Thanks everyone. @2Legit2Quit I have been on suppressive valtrex for over a year...it's not suppressing anything in my opinion. Constant mild outbreaks on buttocks, bikini line and vagianl area. Rectal itching and tingling in the buttocks and back of thighs never stops. I have not tried famvir because my doctor will not prescribe. Thank you @WCSDancer2010 I will look for that article
