During your first herpes outbreak did your flu like symptoms happen simultaneously?

Recommended Posts

For those that experienced flu like symptoms during their first outbreak how far in advance did u get the flu like symptoms or did it happen at the same time you had the outbreak. I remember being sick with fever a few weeks before having my first outbreak then again during my actual outbreak.

I had severe fever, bed-ridden for about a week while I was also having my first herpes outbreak. But subsequent outbreaks haven't been accompanied by flu-like symptoms. The first outbreak is your body trying to fight off the new virus in your body. Hence the flu. After that, your body is upping the antibodies to fight off the virus in the background. This is why staying as healthy as possible helps withstand future outbreaks.

I had some flu like symptoms a couple months before my first full outbreak. However, looking back, I also had a small sore that my doctor originally dismissed as an ingrown hair. I wonder now, looking back, if that was in fact a herpes sore. And then I had the flu like symptoms again with the full outbreak.

I started having a fever two days before discovering my first outbreak. I didn't have access to a thermometer, but judging the symptoms it was pretty high (probably in the ranges of 39-40°). I usually never get fevers so it took me a while to figure out that I should probably check for it. Today is day 4 and I'm still more or less bed bound. So yeah - simultaneous in my case.

I developed flu-like symptoms mid-day, and by that evening I had one lesion. The next day I had four lesions total with fever, swollen inguinal lymph nodes, tired/achy feeling.

There was no mistaking my symptoms- before I saw my first blister I thought FOR SURE I had the flu!
