L-lysine... Should I take it to help prevent herpes outbreaks ?

Ive read some stuff that says the amino acid L-lysine helps prevent herpes outbreaks. Is this true? Should I start taking it, because I get herpes outbreaks often.

My dr highly recommended I take a dose every day, it certainly can't hurt, so why not?

1,000mg I believe. I take one tablet a day :)

I've heard plenty of people swear by Lysine, but interesting thing is that all clinical trials to study its effectiveness with quelling herpes outbreaks have turned up inconclusive. Keep in mind that you don't want to overdo dosage, too. Too much of anything is bad for your health. Also, know that it's an amino acid, not a vitamin. Use at your own risk and make sure you do your research on it!

Is it okay to take it with Valtrex?

Yes, as far as I've heard there aren't any negative interactions between Valtrex and Lysine.

I have been taking Lysine for months and it really has not helped me I still have tingling everyday and outbreaks frequently. Not sure if this has helped. i will be going to Dr. tomorrow to get some meds to see if this will help.

i tried L lysine too but it dont show any affect but a lot of people swear on that,give it a try and you will see

I am taking the L-lysine and it seems to be helping. But I also take C vitamin and zinc everyday.
